| Are any of you using the Colwood Spoon Tip? I bought one at the last carving rendezvous and just tried to use it today for the first time. The end is nicely spoon shaped but I find it difficult to work with. Reason is that the shank of the tip is so strainght. I find it difficult to get much of the spoon in contact with the wood or paper.
I know I can heat it and bend the tip to a nice angle for shading.. no problem there. The "but" comes in after watching a YouTube video by Sue Waters or "??" The tip was used not only for shading, but for drawing lines, curves etc etc. IOW, it was a multipurpose tool for that person.
So, before I go out and "ruin" this tip.. I'm looking for your suggestions if you are familiar with it.
Thanks, Bill | | Back to top | |

| Mine is not a Colwood, but a Detail Master Spoon tip. I have watched the video you are talking about also. I have found I use the sides of this more than the "spoon" part. Not sure on how you would need to go about shaping the tip yourself. I am including pics of mine, since not sure what the Colwood spoon looks like.

| Hi Bill! Yes, the spoon tip takes lots and lots of practice. Sue makes it look so easy, and after you get the hang of it, you'll find many uses for it at different angles. So I'd suggest you not bend it, but rather put more time into learning all it can do. Hugs...Danette | | Back to top | |
