The tips on this system are fixed. This creates a permanent connection
between the tip and the pen, thereby reducing the power loss in the pen.
This means that steady power gets to the tip, and your hand will remain
cooler.

Burning Pens: (click for more)
The Optima 1 pyrography tools offers the thinnest pens and finest
tips available. With pre-sharpened and polished tips, they are ready to
go right out of the package. Shorter length tips allow you to get closer
to your work and have more control than other brands. The foam pen grips
are soft and comfortable (no more sore fingers).
Super-Flex Pen Cords: (click for more)
At about the same diameter as other brands' 18 gauge cords, the 16
gauge cord is just as flexible. I am stocking 16 gauge cords to use with
the heavy-duty pens, both of which are recommended for flat-work woodburning.
These cords keep tip temperatures on the heavy-duty pens very steady!
Power Control Unit:
The 40 Watt Electronic power unit gives precision temperature control,
with a very wide range of heat. It is especially good at holding a steady
temperature at the cooler settings, where some other brands go from too
cold to "too hot", with no control in between. You may select a unit to
control one (Single) or two (Dual) pens.
The majority of my work is done with a shading pen (PH13) and a line pen
(PH12). I use the dual burner controller so I can change between the two
pens easily and with less wear on the electrical connections of the cord
and pen body.
Heavy Duty Pen Style: (shown top)
The heavy duty style is great for people who do flat-work (that's most
of us). The pen’s barrel is larger to insulate against the heat, and the
tips are made for heavier duty use and to hold the heat. For flatwork,
the wood is flat so the entire pen tip is in contact with the wood. This
draws the heat from the tip faster than burning on a curved surface where
a small amount of the tip contacts the surface. For this reason I recommend
using the heavy duty pen style along with the heavy duty 16 gauge cord
for flat-work woodburning.
Warranty:
The Optima 1 woodurning tools (single or dual burner) carries a life time
parts and labor warranty against manufacturing defects for the power supply,
cord, and pen body. Burning tips are excluded, as their use (or abuse)
