Woodburning Patterns!

The patterns on that are available may be used for woodburning, pyrography, or carving. The following is the link to the patterns. There are now almost 200 patterns in the pattern pages! Click Here to view the patterns!

Although line drawings appear to be the easiest for woodburning, they in fact provide little information concerning shading of the subject. For this reason most of what I use in my own burnings are greyscale photographs; they show the original shading, which is often useful.

For the greyscale subjects, you would transfer the major lines to the wood using the techniques discussed in the lessons. After woodburning the lines, the photo may be referenced to burn the shading. Shading is something that everyone does differently, and you will find the technique you like best as you progress.

Click Here to see how one artist used this technique successfully. Her name is Annie Scholl, and she sent me the original greyscale, the enhanced version, and the finished woodburning. It is interesting to see the progression, and how she applied the pattern. This is worth studying if you are interested in working with greyscales.

These patterns available have been optimized to print out on a full 8.5" X 11" paper. This means they are very large files. The largest one is 130K bytes. This will take a while for the browser to display if you want to print it from this site. It is faster to download the file to your disk, and then print it from the disk. You can load the picture into your browser from your disk, and print it from there.

To download the patterns, simply right click on the little drawing and a pop-up menu appears. Then click on "Save Target As" if using Internet Explorer, or "Save Link As" if using Netscape Navigator. Another pop-up will allow you to select a location on your hard drive to save the file. Remember where you save it so you can use it later. Or, you can just click on the thumbnail, view the larger picture, and print it from that page. But this will take a little while.

I hope that you find these patterns useful and have fun woodburing!!
